Gothenburg Indie Pop
Swedish rain-city pop played like a beach rave: sampled strings, pitched vocals, fake-sunset synths, no guitars allowed.
What you're really asking
This is a two-label story more than a genre. Service, founded in Gothenburg in 2001 by Ola Borgström and Dan Lissvik, put out Studio, The Embassy, Jens Lekman and The Tough Alliance; Sincerely Yours, started in 2005 by The Tough Alliance after they left Service, ran out of a Fjällgatan address.
The common thread is a group of friends in a cold port town making records that sound like somewhere warmer — sampling, pitching, hiding behind reverb, refusing the rock band template.
Where it sits
Gothenburg, roughly 2001–2012. The Embassy's 2002 debut Futile Crimes was the first full-length on Service; the duo's early slogan was lifted from Subway Sect — "We oppose all rock 'n' roll" — and they aimed at dub, disco, post-punk and acid house instead.
The lineage is literal: The Tough Alliance and Studio named their labels Sincerely Yours and Information after Embassy songs. Then it broke out — Jens Lekman's Night Falls Over Kortedala gave Service a number one album in Sweden in 2007, and A New Chance went abroad via Summer Lovers Unlimited and Modular.
The Tough Alliance folded in 2009 and Eric Berglund kept the label running; Service stopped issuing new material in 2012.
The scene
Who: Fredrik Lindson and Torbjörn Håkansson (The Embassy), Berglund and Henning Fürst (TTA), Joel Karlsson and Henrik Markstedt (Air France), Lekman, Dan Lissvik and Rasmus Hägg as Studio.
What: guitar demoted to texture, samples carrying the melody, tempos sitting in that 105–120 drift. TTA performed with baseball bats, singing over backing tapes — the anti-band stance was part of the record.
How a record gets in: it has to sound like a holiday made on a budget in a basement, and it usually arrives with artwork, slogans and a limited pressing attached. Sincerely Yours shipped clothing, videos and spray-paint stencils alongside the music.

The founding document — Service's first album, and the source of two other labels' names.

A New Chance
2007
Their third and last album, 32 minutes on Sincerely Yours — hooligan chants mixed into pan-flute euphoria.

No Way Down
2008
The EP that exported the sound — the "beach foam pop" tag came from here, chopped choirs over surf and seagulls.

Studio
Yearbook 1
2007
Lissvik and Hägg stretching the same ideas to ten minutes a track; dub delay instead of a chorus.
