Osaka Noise
The city where noise became performance art — drills, scrap metal and ecstatic chaos.
What you're really asking
Osaka noise isn't music about transgression — it is transgression with a PA. This is the scene where a performer drove a backhoe through the venue wall, and where chaos got organized enough to tour the world as Japanoise.
Where it sits
The axis is Alchemy Records, founded by Jojo Hiroshige of Hijokaidan in 1984, and a circuit of tiny rooms like the Bears club. Hanatarash — Yamatsuka Eye's demolition project — set the legend; Boredoms turned the same energy into rhythm and, by the late nineties, into trance-like ecstasy.
Solmania built its own guitars; Omoide Hatoba bridged noise and song.
The scene
Who: Eye at the center, Alchemy as the label, Bears as the floor. What: anything from scrap-metal assault to drum-circle rapture — volume as material.
How it works: original Alchemy pressings and tour-only CDRs are the grails; the scene's paper trail is deliberately chaotic.
